9 months later.. Benchmarks on Server by Racknerd

Introduction

I am publishing a post about running benchmarks on server after a while. In this post, you will find the benchmark tests on a VPS located in Chicago, by Racknerd.

Background

During Black Friday 2020, I had surprisingly won a 1 year “freebie” from Racknerd… they had posted their offers on LowEndTalk. I actually won twice, but I ended up returning one freebie. You can read about my Black Friday 2020 “bounty” (web hosting plans I signed up for) in this post.

I was not sure then what to do with this VPS. Racknerd after all have a mixed reputation. Without getting into the debate, let me share my experience with this VPS, which is located in Chicago. The VPS has been running non stop for 276 days.

Update December 2021

I have discontinued this service as a part of consolidating services. You can read my other reviews for VPS on this page.

[email protected]:~$ uptime

Running Benchmarks on Server

How is this VPS performing nearly 9 months later, in August 2021?

Let us take a look at the benchmarks (BM) on this server and some questions may get answered automatically. The following BM’s were run on this VPS by me:

1. YABS – Yet Another Benchmarking Script

2. Bench.monster

3. Nench

YABS (Yet Another Benchmarking Script)

Yabs is a popular script to run Benchmarks on Server. You can learn more about this benchmarking script on their github page.

Running nench.sh benchmarks on server

I have not run this test on a VPS for a long time, so I thought f giving it a try here. Below are the results from the test. Nench. sh runs the benchmarks on server twice, posting results from one run only.

Disk Performance

As a sanity check I ran the good ol’ dd test on this VPS

sudo dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/test1.img bs=1G count=1 oflag=dsync

1+0 records out

This post is a part of the series of Benchmarks and reviews I have done for multiple providers and Virtual Private Servers. You can review the entire list by clicking here.

I was not looking to put this VPS into production, but the above performance from benchmarks on server (and location, Chicago… my favourite city!) makes me wonder what can I do with this VPS for the remaining 3 months of this VPS subscription.
