In this post, you will find an introduction and overview of VirtFusion server control panel. This post is a hybrid of sorts, that is, will cover the “what” and the “how” together in this post. The “what” will cover how to install the VirtFusion panel, what are the minimum hardware and operating system specifications, and so on. We will refer to the installation and configuration documentation for this. In parallel, I will also include screenshots from the time I had tested this panel. This is intended to aid a subscriber to a VPS, i.e. a typical end user’s perspective.
Welcome to Day Number twenty Seven of my Blogging Challenge. For today’s SaaSy Sunday, read my brief review of Zoho Workplace. It has been six months since we took the subscription. We have used Zoho Mail for over 6 years for our business. Around July last year we took the subscription for Zoho Workplace, a suite of SaaS (Software as a Service) tools for office communication, document management and customer connect. I was thinking of posting my impressions on using Zoho Workplace sometime next month. Last Sunday, I had written about Zoho Writer, therefore publishing the below review at a later time made sense. But a conversation on an Internet Forum changed that.
Welcome to Day 20 of my blogging challenge. Today’s post is a hybrid. The first part of this post is what is known as a listicle. I began writing this post as a compilation of writing apps on the Mac that are used for blogging. I decided to use Zoho Writer for this post. As I began using this tool, I discovered many of its features. This second half of this post highlights some of the features that you will love about this app.

In this post, I will write about Screpy, a SaaS (Software as a Service) tool for monitoring, optimizing and managing your server. In a previous post, I have talked about the need to monitor the uptime of your website. In that post, I discussed over 15 tools for monitoring website performance, such as Hetrix Tools and Uptime Robot . Some of these tools or SAAS (Software as a service) are free, while others follow the freemium model. A few, such as Phpservermonitor, are self hosted open source programs. These services monitor the uptime of websites and send alerts via SMS, email or slack when there is downtime.
The methods they use include ping, http/s, UDP, and others.
Over the past few months, there has been a flurry of companies who have started offering Text to Speech (TTS) services. Many of them are startups, majority of them are in early staged of growth, and almost all of them use one or all of the Amazon Polly, Google Text to Speech, or similar solutions from IBM or Microsoft Azure*. In this post, I will talk about a few such services, and ponder on the all important question for Podcasters:
Are the Text to Speech (TTS) services a podcaster’s friend, or foe?
The rise of Speech to Text programsDuring the early 2000’s, when the news of carpal tunnel syndrome began to make news, the topic of Speech to Text software began to get discussed quite a bit. One software in particular made news- Dragon Naturally Speaking. This was a Windows program where one could dictate and the software would convert the words to speech. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and its cousin, RSI (Repetetive Strain Injury) still exist, but technology has enabled more use cases for Speech to Text: I find it very convenient to use this tool to dictate my blog posts. In this post, I have published output from a couple of alternatives to otter.ai. Read More »Random testing with Speech to Text Programs
Using the ols1clk command, I was able to set up WordPress on a “free” VPS or Virtual Private Server from Virmach. I created this subdomain to test WordPress installation on an openlitespeed server. Typically, this machine costs US $ 3 for 120 days. The specifications of the machine are: 512 MB RAM, 15 GB SSD Drive and an Intel(R) Xeon(R)… Read More »Testing OpenLiteSpeed Server on a small VPS
